FAMILY: Parent's Archie and Helen Macdonald own an Apothecary in Diagon Alley specializing in rare and exotic ingredients. Mary has an older brother Rhys who finished Hogwarts last year and a younger sister in her 5rd year, Laura. The most notable relative of Mary's would be her uncle Magnus, who tried to re-introduce Creaothceann when she was a toddler. Archie said his brother was always a bit whacked due to being accidentally dropped as a baby. Mary's grandparents live on an estate in Scotland, where she and her siblings visited frequently because according to her grandmother - "It's just not right letting such young and energetic children play in a smelly store all day long!"

BIOGRAPHY: Mary is the middle child of three. She was sent to a Muggle primary school by her grandparents along with her brother and sister to learn basics that weren't based on Potions or Herbology. Her parents had their children help around the store after school and on weekends, running back and forth between the shop and their Diagon Alley apartment. Her grandparents insisted that they spend their school holidays on their estate doing "normal kid things" like playing Quidditch with the children in the area, so they had a fairly all-round upbringing.

Her first year at Hogwarts went so quickly. Once making friends with Lily Evans and Alice Prewett

In her fourth year, her father nearly died in an accident whilst collecting wild orchids in South America. He was admitted into hospital there, and was not allowed to leave until he had recovered. Her mother went hysterical, her grandparents tried to help, but all they could do was sit and wait. Mary spent a whole term in autopilot, keeping Laura happy, telling her it'd be alright, and trying to stop her brother from doing the usual boy dramatics he was known for. When they returned home for the Easter break and found Archie waiting for them, Mary crashed. She took the rest of the year to recover, turning into a cynic, and never really forgave her mother for not being there to help her.

By the start of her fifth year, she was the same girl she was before, but prone to fits of rage rectified by spending hours on her own flying over the castle or walking in the Forbidden Forest. She recovered her grades and no-one really remembers when Mary wasn't Mary anymore. At Hogwarts now, she is near the top of the class in Potions and Herbology. She loves Charms and Transfiguration, and takes Defense very seriously. She does Divination as a bludge subject to catch up on other work and gossip, yet manages to pass with E's and O's. She never misses a Quidditch match, even when Lily has once again stated why it's such a horrible game. Hopefully this year she'll get off her butt and try out.

When she looks back at her life, all she sees are the good times and things that made her stronger. Never the bad.

PERSONALITY: Mary is generally a bright and bubby girl. She is a source of annoyance to her family and friends, always seeing the good side of things and disregarding the bad. She loves people though finds it hard to trust them. She has been the shoulder to cry on for her friends, and the person to come to for advise on everything from boys to teachers and assignments. She is protective of her friends and family, and if you do something she's weary of, expect a visit. Mary is a streak that can be very sarcastic and ignorant - a contrast to her general demeanor - making her unpredictable to those who don't know her well enough to pick her moods.

She loves the sunshine and thinks that Scotland is so dreary at times. She wants to go travelling when she finishes school under the pretense of collecting and discovering new plants and flowers for her parent's shop.

Her flaws: she doesn't like people knowing everything about her. She doesn't like being wrong, and so she holds back just in case. She needs approval from her father in everything she does. She is insecure, especially since her fourth year.
Her major flaw: she hates knowing her flaws and works to make them seem less.

APPEARANCE: Mary is 5'5, long and slender and just a bit curvy, with straight dark brown hair, pale skin with dusty freckles across her face and blue eyes. She calls herself average. Some call her cute. Her grandfather says that when she grows up, she'll be the most beautiful woman around. But he's biased.
